Steps to Lighting the Rear IR Burner

Steps to Lighting the Rear IR Burner

****Ensure that your grill hood is open before attempting to ignite any burners****

The rear burner is connected to a safety value to ensure that no gas is released without a flame. To ignite this burner, we must bypass the safety value. To do this, we must keep the back burner knob pressed in throughout the ignition process (steps#1-2 below).
1. Press and hold knob a quarter turn, then wait 3-5 seconds, then, turn the knob until you hear it click (the click is the ignitor sparking). You should see the flame ignite across the back burner.
2. Continuing to hold the knob in, once you see the flame, keep the knob pressed in for an additional 5-10 seconds before releasing (this allows the thermocouple to heat up and triggers the safety valve to release gas).

If the burner fails to light, turn the knob off; wait for 5 minutes, and repeat the ignition sequence above (steps # 1-2).

Reasons why the Rear IR Burner is not igniting:
1. Check the distance between the electrode and thermocouple; a 3 – 4 mm distance is best. When the knob clicks, you should see a spark between the two points.
2. If you do not pause when rotating the knob, it will be difficult to ignite, as the fuel must fill the gas line running from the valve in the front - to the burner in the back.
3. Ensure that all other burners are turned off first. If the valves of the main burner are open but the burners are not lit, the rear IR burner will not ignite.
4. You may need to attempt lighting the IR burner a couple of times if this is the initial time using the grill or if the grill has not been on for an extended period.

If you experience problems igniting the rear burner, shut off the gas supply and contact your local servicer or Coyote’s Customer Support Team for assistance.
